This is undoubtedly Balzac's most famous short story. The Unknown Masterpiece is about thirty pages, a brilliant droplet in the romantic ocean of the colossus. At the Théâtre de l'Essaïon, the actress Catherine Aymerie is the narrator of this short story and, let's face it, this is a very endearing show. Michel Favart's staging favours the imagination: a setting that marks neither the period in which the story of the three painters (1612) nor that of Balzac is played.
