Cybercriminal networks are targeting known accounts on the TikTok platform and hacking them. The modus operandi of the scam remains unchanged and uses social engineering such as phishing.
Scammers extort ransoms of several thousand euros after manipulating the owners of influential accounts from which they take money. “I received the email I was expecting from TikTok with the offer to certify my account, the Holy Grail for a content creator,” recalls Yazan Chaban, the anesthesiologist behind the @doctor.anesthesia account.
