Cybercriminal networks are targeting known accounts on the TikTok platform and hacking them with the aim of extorting every last euro from their owners.
Already exploited to hack accounts on Instagram, the modus operandi of the scam remains unchanged and uses social engineering such as phishing.
“I received the email I was expecting from TikTok with the offer to certify my account, the Holy Grail for a content creator,” recalls Yazan Chaban, the anesthesiologist behind the @doctor.anesthesia account.
“I trusted the header of the email and I let my guard down for a question of ego even though I was aware of the risk,” he regrets.
