Bank notes bearing the image of King Charles III will be put into circulation from next June in the United Kingdom. The banknotes bearing the portrait of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022, will continue to be legal tender.

The new banknotes will be printed gradually from June 5 “solely to replace those which are worn out and to respond to any overall increase in demand for banknotes” The general public will also be able to exchange a limited value of current or old notes for new Charles III notes.
