Latvia and its two Baltic neighbors, Lithuanian and Estonian, have been experiencing the conflict since February 24, 2022. Fearing that the Russian Bear will advance on them again in the event of Kiev's defeat, these former Soviet republics occupied by force in 1939 then 1945, and only liberated in 1991.
“We stand with Ukraine, because we experienced the same type of aggression and occupation during World War II, and after 1945. We see the continuity of aggressive Russian imperialism that threatens all Europe,” says the former Latvian ambassador to Paris.
