Germany is currently experiencing the longest, sunny, dry and, above all, warmest weather phase in 2023 so far. While the south experienced many wet periods in May, less rain fell in the north and east – in some cases up to 80 percent less than usual in May. The extreme drought is a breeding ground for forest fires.
