In France, several plants are protected because of their rarity, vulnerability or ecological importance. The protection of these plants aims to prevent their disappearance and promote biodiversity.

More than 400 of them appear in the annex to the decree of January 20, 1982 establishing the list of plant species protected throughout the territory.
