Work for a new daycare center brings Geretsrieder's history to light. During the Second World War, explosives were manufactured in the factories of Dynamit Aktiengesellschaft (DAG) and Deutsche Sprengchemie (DSC).

There were over 600 buildings. Gravel was mined here from around 1938 to 1941. The concrete in turn was used to build the bunkers and buildings for the ammunition factories. During an American air raid in 1945, many bombs rained down on what is now the city.
