Kelvin Kiptum, the recent marathon world record holder, died at the age of 24 in a road accident in Kenya. He was driving the vehicle which also took away his trainer Gervais Hakizimana.

Last October, the Kenyan ran the Chicago marathon in 2h00′35″, setting a staggering new world mark. The native of the Keiyo district knew France well. He took part in his first race outside Kenya in the Lion half-marathon, between Belfort and Montbéliard, in 2019.
