A little less than a year ago, members of the GIGN were engaged in Sudan with special forces to evacuate 500 French nationals. On April 23, 2023, two GIGN pick-ups followed by special forces crossed a bridge overlooking the Nile, heading towards the French embassy.
A few hours earlier, the highest authorities of the French state engaged elite soldiers and gendarmes in a perilous operation aimed at recovering our nationals stuck in the country. The ambassador and around thirty French people have already been brought back to safety.
