Highlights: A little less than a year ago, members of the GIGN were engaged in Sudan with special forces to evacuate 500 French nationals. On April 23, 2023, two GIGN pick-ups followed by special forces crossed a bridge overlooking the Nile, heading towards the French embassy. A few hours earlier, the highest authorities of the French state engaged elite soldiers and gendarmes in a perilous operation aimed at recovering our nationals stuck in the country. The ambassador and around thirty French people have already been brought back to safety.


A little less than a year ago, members of the GIGN were engaged in Sudan with special forces to evacuate 500 French nationals.


The sun has just risen over Khartoum (Sudan), which has been plagued for several days by violent fighting between the regular army and a paramilitary militia.

On April 23, 2023, two GIGN pick-ups followed by special forces crossed a bridge overlooking the Nile, heading towards the French embassy.

A few hours earlier, the highest authorities of the French state engaged elite soldiers and gendarmes in a perilous operation aimed at recovering our nationals stuck in the country.

The ambassador and around thirty French people have already been brought back to safety when the special forces and the gendarmes return to the embassy for a second convoy.
