EU agreement for 'without borders' vehicle fines - Regulations and Institutions. The Council and the EU Parliament have reached an initial agreement to combat the phenomenon of impunity for motorists who commit traffic offenses in a country other than their own.
The updated rules will expand the list of infringements of the highway code committed by non-resident drivers which trigger cross-border assistance and which can result in a fine. Currently, the European Chamber note recalls, approximately 40% of so-called transnational infringements go unpunished.
