1,000 new fast charging points for electric cars are to be built on German motorways by 2026. The contract was awarded by the federally owned Autobahn GmbH to four companies.

The 34 new locations are mainly located in the northern half of Germany. In the long term, a total of 4,000 charging points should be built along the motorways, and a charging station should be accessible every ten minutes at the latest. The range of electric cars can drop significantly, especially in winter - in freezing temperatures, power consumption skyrockets.
