In 2023, 70.9 billion euros were spent in Italy on the purchase of petrol and diesel fuel. This is a slight decrease (-0.3%) compared to the historic high of 2022 (71.1 billion) Of the total expenditure, 38.1billion flowed into state coffers for excise duties and VAT.
Production and distribution (industrial component) instead received 32.8billion in 2023. The increase in the tax component is partly due to the disappearance of the benefits granted in 2022.
