Both cities criticize SUVs – an acronym for “ sport utility vehicles ” – of being too bulky, too heavy and too polluting. With an average width exceeding 1.80 m in the European Union (an additional 1 cm every two years), it is sometimes difficult to find suitable places to park. An American study published online on January 19 by the journal Economics of Transportation shows through statistical analysis that SUVs are deadlier for pedestrians.
