Former English footballer and international Paul Gascoigne has been acquitted of sexual harassment charges. This is reported by several media in the United Kingdom.
According to British BBC BBC, however, the court in Middlesbrough, North East England, continues to hold a fine because the 51-year-old should have become violent during the August 2018 incident.
Gascoigne was arrested on August 20th. The prosecution had accused him of kissing a woman on a train from York to Newcastle against her will.
According to the BBC, Gascoigne said in court that he "kissed the lips of the woman" to increase her self-confidence. Previously, another man called the woman as overweight. The judges ruled that although Gascoigne was "naive" to kiss the woman, it was not a sexual act.
This is not the first time that Gascoigne has been on trial. In August 2013, he was fined in London. The former midfielder had to pay 1000 pounds for attacking a security guard.
Gascoigne was one of the best footballers in the world in the 1990s. He played at Tottenham Hotspur and Lazio, among others, and has been nominated 57 times for the English national team. Since the end of his football career in 2004, he struggles with alcohol problems and depression.
