At least 15 people have died in a dam failure in the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk in Russia. Another 13 people were missing after the incident in the night of Saturday, said the civil defense of the region. The number of injured was stated as 14. Three of them were seriously injured, the Russian agency Ria Novosti reported.
The dam on the Sejba River, which belongs to a goldmine near the settlement of Shechetinkino, was broken during the night for reasons unknown. The floods covered two residential buildings. There should have been around 80 people. The authorities are investigating whether all safety regulations have been met in the gold mine.
More than 300 helpers were used according to official information. The inhabitants in the surrounding villages were brought to safety. Helicopters were deployed in early Saturday morning to help rescue workers, and to search for missing persons in the surrounding villages as well.
