A fire in the center of Turin has destroyed a significant part of a historic building. The fire brigade moved to a large-scale deployment, reports of injuries do not exist so far.

In the northern Italian city, a fire has broken out in the historically significant Cavallerizza Reale. The forces were out in the morning for a major deployment there, said the fire department on Twitter.

The roof of the building was therefore caught fire. At least a quarter of the construction had been destroyed by the flames, a part of the roof had collapsed. The authorities shut down the area, as the newspaper "La Repubblica" reports.

The cause of the fire is unclear. So far, there are no reports of injuries, the building should have been empty in recent years. The UN cultural organization Unesco has awarded the Cavallerizza Reale the status of a World Heritage Site.
