In Hamburg, two men apparently drowned in a stolen car. A passing truck driver had found the car in a rainwater retention basin in the morning, a spokesman for the police said. The vehicle was therefore upside down in the water, only the rear axle sticking out. It is unclear since exactly when the bodies were there.
According to the fire department, the rescue was difficult because the ditch was five meters below the road. A firefighter was therefore able to pull a body out of the car in the water. The other dead was only discovered when the car had been pulled with winches ashore. Divers of the fire-brigade controlled the environment of the car, discovered however no further humans.
According to the police, the car is a rental car from a rental company from Berlin, which was reported stolen on Tuesday. It is unclear why the car had gone straight into the rainwater retention basin on a right turn.
According to the investigators, the dead are a 29-year-old and a 30-year-old. Whether the two had stolen the car and what the background could be, is unclear.
