K-pop star Goo Hara has been found dead in her home in Seoul, local police said. An acquaintance discovered the 28-year-old and then contacted the authorities. The cause of death is not yet known, the police did not disclose any further details.
Goo became known as part of the girl group Kara, which since 2008 has enjoyed great success in South Korea, Japan and other Asian countries. She then worked as a solo artist and appeared in numerous TV shows.
Last year, she was involved in a public dispute with her ex-boyfriend. Goo accused the man of having threatened to publish a sex video of her. He in turn claimed to have been attacked by her. In late May, Hara attempted suicide, but was resuscitated at the hospital.
Back in October, another K-pop star was found dead with Sulli. The 25-year-old singer and actress was regarded as a feminist and open artist in conservative South Korea. Before she died, she had spoken on a TV show about the hostility she had received for her lifestyle.
