A scary flashback, two revolutions and one stunning country: the welcome change in the Negev

Production: Nature and Parks Authority

Today it is difficult to imagine the world without the internet, but once in a while, in the distant days of the 2000s, around 2000, the internet was in its infancy and so is the latest information on the itineraries in the Negev. When travelers went on a trip they had to take half a house with them and of course water, lots of water, because the unique sites we were blessed with in an Israeli country were still, how to say, busier.

Two revolutions have happened since then. One, the Internet has grown and blossomed into some of us, through the computer, smartphone, or tablet. We are connected to the world at all times and almost everywhere. The second is the revolution in the travel and nature sites created by the Nature and Parks Authority. In recent years, the Nature and Parks Authority together with the Ministry of Tourism have built a sequence of parking lots, which constitute accessible infrastructure for travelers. Today in the Negev there are footpaths, the sites have amenities and rest areas for a pleasant stay. At one time it was difficult to travel in the Negev and nowadays thanks to the night camps and the flowing water in them allow for safer and more comfortable accommodation.

Still, it's important to remember and walk the wilderness while maintaining some basic safety rules: walking marked trails, taking a backpack and plenty of water for the day's walking, wearing a hat and sunscreen, and of course knowing where to start and where to end.

Watch the third installment of the new and original "Quarter to Nature" network series by the Nature and Parks Authority, in which the pair of creators and actors Yiftah Hutsav and Barkai Era, through content company "Peach", join the fascinating nature conservation and heritage activities that the authority is leading. In the chapter of Yiftach and Idan, they receive an unpleasant flashback to the 2004 trip to the Negev. When they come to reality in 2020 they realize how lucky they were then and how lucky they are today.
