- BEIJING, 18 AUG - South Korea has announced a ban for churches in Seoul and neighboring areas to hold public activities with the exception of worship services without any direct contact: it is the draconian measure decided to contain the rapid spread of the sudden outbreak of Covid -19 departed from the Protestant church of Sarang Jeil, in the capital. In a statement, Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun clarified that the government has raised social distancing rules to level 2 in Incheon, a city west of Seoul.
The infections announced today are 246, for 15,761 total, with an additional death, to 306. The South Korean government has imposed measures in Seoul and in the province of Gyeonggi during the last weekend, but the effectiveness is expected starting tomorrow, added Chung, in the Yonhap account. "The new cases of Covid-19 are rising at an explosive rate causing a chain of infections in churches, workplaces and hospitals", continued the premier, for whom the increasing speed "of the spread of the virus is fueling fears of a possible mass epidemic nationwide ".
