"The Government does not intend to imagine an airline that in an unlimited time will continue to be the exclusive property of the State, but we believe that once the initial phase of the industrial plan has been completed, the conditions will exist for accessing the airline market to the possibility to build alliances, synergies, as well as any partnerships ".
This was stated by the Minister of Infrastructure Paola De Micheli in a hearing on Alitalia in the Transport Committee of the Chamber.
"In these days the inter-ministerial decree for the constitution of the new company was sent to the ministers responsible for the concert" for Alitalia.
De Micheli stressed that the new company "will operate in absolute discontinuity" with respect to the old Alitalia.
The newco for Alitalia "will have to implement an ambitious plan with a development span of 5 years, when the recovery of the sector will reasonably be achieved".
The minister of infrastructure and transport Paola De Micheli said this in a hearing in the Chamber.
"We must work to implement the features now so that in 5 years we can seize all the opportunities. On how we want to build the company in the next 5 years, we confirm some of the indications already given, namely rebalancing of long, medium and short haul, balancing of traffic corporate and leisure, a renewed fleet to reduce costs and balancing the leased and owned fleet ".
The Industrial Plan for the new Alitalia "will be developed by the management, approved by the Board of Directors and will be presented in detail to the Chambers. The numbers of aircraft, personnel and fleet will be clear when this process is completed, which should last about 30 days from the establishment of the newco itself ", explained De Micheli.
"The newco will relaunch itself if, and we are sure, it will be able to produce income. In parallel, discussions with partners will continue to accompany and support the development and expansion in this start-up phase of the new company".
