(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 15 - Covid-19 does not scare pasta enthusiasts and lovers all over the world: one in four people has in fact increased their consumption during months of lockdown.
This was revealed by the international study "Ilconsumo di pasta nella lockdown", commissioned by UnioneItaliana Food and Agenzia Ice in Doxa and made official on the occasion of World Pasta Day, an event organized every 25 October by Unione Italiana Food and Ipo-International Pasta Organization and joined at 22 / edition.
The research was conducted on a sample of over 5,000 people in Italy, Germany, France, Great Britain and the USA.
The study report shows that nearly 16 million tons of rod were produced worldwide in 2019, more than double the 7 million tons 20 years ago.
The tradition of pasta in Italy is solidly confirmed: it is eaten by everyone (98%) with 23.1 kilograms per capita per year.
In particular, about 6 out of 10 Italians, in all age groups and with a peak in the center-south, bring it to the table every day.
It is also consumed internationally by all (or almost all) French, German, British and American (9 out of 10 Americans).
The average per capita consumption is lower than in Italy: 9kg per year in the US, 8 in France and Germany, 3.5 in the United Kingdom.
On the choice of formats in Italy the short erected pasta wins, while the British and Americans prefer the long one.

For the World Pasta Day the festival "Al Dente - The Italian way of Pasta" is back: for a week (18-25 October) 130 Italian restaurants and from all over the world will offer a Mediterranean pasta dish on the menu.
The inspiration of the chefs will be the #VivoMediterraneo movement (ANSA).
