A forest fire in California got out of hand due to high winds.
The so-called Bond Fire spreads in a mountain canyon in Orange County, southeast of Los Angeles.
Over 2,500 hectares of forest are on fire there, 25,000 people have had to leave their homes, and the California governor is alarmed.
Gavin Newsom, Governor of California:
“It's December and our state is still burning. The winds in the last few days have been pretty strong. They peak this afternoon and early evening. We have seen a number of fires, especially one in Orange County called the Bond Fire. "
The fire broke out in a family home on Wednesday evening and was driven through Silverado Canyon by gusty winds.
Around 500 firefighters are on duty.
By Thursday evening, they were only able to contain ten percent of the fire.
The local fire department said on Twitter that two officers were injured in action.
The west of the USA is repeatedly fighting extreme forest fires, the 2020 season was particularly devastating for the state of California: More than 1.7 million hectares of forest have burned there since the beginning of the year - around five times the area of Mallorca.
