The Roland-Garros tournament, which was to take place from 23 May to 6 June, has been postponed for a week.
This was revealed by a source close to the organization, confirming the rumors of the newspaper L'Équipe.
The tournament, therefore, will be staged from May 30th to June 13th.
This shift could allow organizers to welcome more spectators if health restrictions linked to the Coronavirus pandemic are to be relaxed.
The 2020 edition of Roland-Garros had been postponed from May to September, due to the pandemic, a decision adopted by the French Tennis Federation in March 2020 that had taken everyone by surprise.
This time, the one-week postponement of the Grand Slam tournament played on clay will have little impact on the schedule, although there will only be two weeks between the Roland Garros final and the start of Wimbledon (28 June-11 July). .
World No.3 Rafael Nadal, the undisputed king of clay, will once again be the big favorite in a tournament he has already won 13 times.
The 2021 edition could see the return of the Swiss Roger Federer to the Parisian clay where he has appeared only once since 2015, in 2019, the year in which he reached the semifinals, before being beaten by the great rival Nadal.
