(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 22 - The turnover of organized crime deriving from infiltration into the legal economy of the tourism sector exceeds 2.2 billion, of which almost 40% concentrated in the South. This is calculated by a research carried out by Demoskopika elaborating official data or authoritative sources that ANSA has previewed. 40% of the total turnover is attributed to the ndrangheta alone, and almost 4,500 companies are at the greatest risk of money laundering associated with the liquidity crisis caused by the pandemic. "Tourism on its knees for Covid is tempting to criminal associations," says the president of Demoskopika, Raffaele Rio.

On the opposite side, there are four regions with a lower vulnerability, present in the cluster of realities with a "low" risk of economic infiltration: Marche, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige.

If the estimated proceeds of organized crime deriving from the economic infiltration of the Italian tourism sector amount to 2.2 billion euros, the lion's share is made by the 'ndrangheta with a turnover of 810 million, equal to 37% of total revenues. . Followed by the Camorra with 730 million (33%) and the Mafia with 440 (20%) and organized crime in Puglia and Basilicata with 220 (10%). Observing the territorial level, it also emerges that 38% of criminal income, equal to 825 million, would concentrate in the realities of the Mezzogiorno.
