(ANSA) - MEXICO CITY, 03 MAY - A delegation of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) of Mexico has sailed from the country on a sailing ship to Europe to "awaken" the peoples from the "invasion" of capitalism and meet like-minded groups from 29 countries on the European continent.

The members of the EZLN "421 Squadron", consisting of four women, two men and a transsexual woman, left Isla Mujeres, 13 kilometers from the Caribbean-Mexican coast, on Sunday, and began their journey on an old German sailboat renamed "La Montaña" for the occasion.

The departure of the expedition, called 'Journey to Life, Europe Chapter' was scheduled for today, but the organizers of theevent had to anticipate it due to the weather conditions.

The delegation expects to arrive in about six weeks at the port of Vigo, in Galicia, on a trip that aims to simulate an "invasion" of Europe in memory of the conquest of Mexico by the Spaniards, 500 years ago.

Before reaching Isla Mujeres, a Zapatista caravan traveled about a thousand kilometers from Chiapas, from where it started last Monday. Announcing the operation in mid-April, the Zapatista group explained that in the weeks of stay in Europe it will meet "those who have invited us to talk about our mutual stories, pains, anger, conquests and failures", in 29 countries ranging from Austria to Hungary, passing through France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and Russia.

Founded by the 'subcomandante' Marcos who retired voluntarily in 2014, the EZLN is currently coordinated by the 'subcomandante Galeano' who has been in charge of narrating the journey, stage by stage. (HANDLE).
