Big cities ask to experiment with measures against the precariousness of young people

The cost of these experiments would amount to a little over 50 million euros for the 12,000 young people who would take part.

The big cities asked the government on Tuesday to experiment with various measures in order to fight against the precariousness of young people, by giving them a "

financial boost

" or by financially supporting their job search.

"

We consider that the fight against the precariousness of young people is also a fight to restore confidence in the future

", affirmed during a press conference Johanna Rolland, mayor (PS) of Nantes and president of France Urbaine, who brings together the largest French cities, during a press conference. This organization thus proposes the experimentation of four distinct scenarios for two years, that is to say in three metropolises for each of them, with 1,000 young people per territory who will benefit from the actions carried out.

"

Our territories are ready to put in the resources, but it is naturally more than necessary for the State to support these experiments

,

including financially

", underlined Johanna Rolland.

"We expect in the coming weeks a response that we sincerely hope for," she added.

4 scenarios considered

The first scenario responds to the "

logic of the financial boost

" by promoting access to essential goods and services against the precariousness already in place for young people, explained the mayor (PS) of Nancy, Mathieu Klein, rapporteur of the study of urban France on the deployment of experiments.

The second, presented as a "

universal right

"

,

consists of

"financial support securing the search for the first job for each young person under 30"

, he added.

The third scenario is the one favored by the government and aims "

to support the universalization of the Youth Guarantee"

and the fourth is to create

"a youth solidarity income"

.

According to Mathieu Klein, France Urbaine has already discussed these measures with Prime Minister Jean Castex, Minister of Labor Elisabeth Borne or Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Jacqueline Gourault. The cost of these experiments would amount to a little over 50 million euros for the 12,000 young people who would take part.
