Stop to the further dissemination of the video that tells the last moments of the Mottarone tragedy and to forms of spectacle of the event, "which can only exacerbate the pain of the victims' families and those who were connected to them".
This is the invitation addressed by the Privacy Guarantor to the media and users of social networks.
The Authority calls the media "to respect the principle of essentiality of information" and "to safeguard the dignity of people" and appeals to social users "so that pain does not become a tool for an extra like".
"With reference to the dissemination of videos that tell the last moments of the tragedy of the Mottarone cable car, the Guarantor for the protection of personal data - underlines the Authority in a note - invites the media and users of social networks to refrain from further dissemination of images and forms of spectacle of the event, which can only exacerbate the pain of the victims' families and those who were related to them. The videos, whose content had not yet been brought to the attention of the same family members, add little, as regards the information of public opinion, to the reconstruction of the dynamics of the terrible accident, already widely covered by the media ". The Guarantor "therefore calls on the media themselves to respect the principle of essentiality ofinformation, established by the Deontological Rules on journalistic activity, and to safeguard the dignity of people. The Authority launches a particular appeal to those who are posting and sharing videos on social networks in these hours so that pain does not become a tool for an extra like ".
