(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 25 - Thousands of residents have fled from flooded communities and flooded rivers in the capital of the Philippines, Manila, and in other provinces as a result of days of torrential monsoon rains that caused the death of at least one person.

Nearly 15,000 residents in the capital region of Marikina were reportedly evacuated as the waters of a large river rose alarmingly.

In the northern city of Baguio, a resident died Friday afternoon after the taxi he was traveling in was hit by a tree, police said. The northern Philippines was hit by days of monsoon rains that resulted in flooding in villages and small landslides.

Typhoon In-fa, which came off the country's east coast and dumped rain on Taiwan before blowing towards China, intensified the seasonal downpours, meteorologists said. (HANDLE).
