(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 23 - Substantially quiet but always tense situation on the border between Kosovo and Serbia, where for the fourth day Serbian demonstrators block the Jarinje and Brnjak crossings in protest against the obligation to change the number plate for incoming vehicles from Serbia.

The two border posts are blocked by a long line of trucks, bulldozers, tires and other material that prevent the regular passage of vehicles. It is only possible to cross the border on foot.

The only border post open to cars and trucks is that of Merdare. The demonstrators - kept at bay by a massive array of armed special forces of the Kosovar police, backed by armored vehicles - spent another night in the cold and under tents garrisoning their posts and protesting what is deemed a unilateral and provocative decision by Pristina. for which from 20 September all vehicles entering from Serbia and circulating in Kosovo must change the Serbian license plate with a temporary Kosovar one, at a cost of 5 euros and valid for two months. This, says Prime Minister Albin Kurti, for the 'principle of reciprocity' and in response to a similar obligation that Kosovar vehicles have entering Serbia.

A situation that has further stiffened the positions of the parties already very distant, casting new shadows on the continuation of the dialogue facilitated by the EU.
