INTERVIEW - On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the association “Orgue en France” carried out the first national inventory of organs. A colossal work which is only the first step in a long process of enhancing the value of the French park. Explanations.

- Why a national inventory of organs?

Since we created Orgue in France, we have acquired the conviction that we have in France an organistic heritage of unique diversity.

Despite the Revolution, despite the two wars, we have perhaps the least destroyed park in Europe, including compared to England, Germany or the countries of the North.

With instruments that sometimes date back to the 16th century!

However, we had never counted it.

It is on this observation that we launched the inventory, three years ago.

One of the objectives of the inventory is to help raise general awareness of this heritage.

Where are you?

We have listed 8000 organs throughout the territory.

We are lucky, in France, to have many associations of organ friends, sometimes in very small villages, which, unlike other countries, are not denominational.

This has helped us considerably in arriving at this comprehensive count.
