Bad weather, orange alert in Sicily and Sardinia

Still rains and thunderstorms on the major islands and on Campania. Panic for trumpets in the province of Trapani. Connections with the Tremiti islands interrupted (ANSA)


 A depression between Tunisia and the two major Italian islands continues to convey impulses of disturbed weather, at times even intense: in this context, rains and thunderstorms are expected that first affect Sardinia, to then also reach Sicily and Campania, especially on the coastal sectors of the latter. This was underlined by the Department of Civil Protection which, in agreement with the regions involved, issued a warning of adverse weather conditions.


    The notice provides for scattered to diffuse rainfall, also of a reverse or thunderstorm character, on Sardinia, in subsequent extension to Sicily and Campania, with particular reference to the coastal sectors and to the islands of the latter. The phenomena will be accompanied by showers of strong intensity,frequent electrical activity and strong local gusts of wind.


    On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, an orange alert was assessed for tomorrow, Wednesday 17 November, over a large part of Sicily and the eastern sector of Sardinia. Furthermore, a yellow alert was assessed on some sectors of Marche, Abruzzo, Campania, Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria, Sardinia and the rest of Sicily.

Two sea trumpets were formed in the morning in the sea in front of Marinella di Selinunte in the Trapani area

and panicked hundreds of people who feared it would land. The trumpets moved from the sea of ​​Menfi to Mazara del vallo and people filmed the event invoking ancient litanies used by fishermen to make it stop. At the same time, in the area, from the sea to the town of Castelvetrano (Trapani), there was a strong hailstorm with very large grains.

The sea connections between the port of Termoli (Campobasso) and the Tremiti Islands

interrupted

due to bad weather.

Today's stormy sea prevented the motor ship "Isola di Capraia", which carries out the daily transport of goods and passengers between the Molise coast and the Diomedee, from setting sail for San Domino.

In the morning the boat had postponed the departure to 13 and then the captain's decision to remain in the port.

The marine weather report issued by the Port Authority reported the sea storm with a force 7 south-east wind.
