It would have been quite a media hype.

Matthew McConaughey's mere mental game of possibly entering politics had made plenty of headlines (not least at SPIEGEL).

Now, however, the speculations are likely to be over for the time being.

In a clip published on Twitter, the Hollywood star said of a political career: "This is a path that I will not choose for the time being." Instead, McConaughey says he wants to promote certain companies and foundations that pave the way for other people.

In the current video, McConaughey continues: “Politicians?

The good ones can help us get where we need to be.

(...) But it is also clear: You cannot do anything for us if we do not participate. "

McConaughey was born and raised in Texas.

Most recently he wrote about his youth in the small town of Uvalde in the south of the state in the autobiographical book »Greenlights«.

Active against the pandemic and for young people

McConaughey repeatedly called for the corona crisis to be taken seriously.

Among other things, he interviewed the well-known virologist Anthony Fauci about the effects of the pandemic.

With his foundation, he has been supporting young people from difficult backgrounds for years.

The now 52-year-old, who won an Oscar in 2014 for portraying a cowboy suffering from AIDS in the drama "Dallas Buyers Club", would have been by no means the first actor to get involved in politics.

Most famous are probably Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was California's governor from 2003 to 2011.

Former "Sex an the City" actress Cynthia Nixon failed in the 2018 primaries for governor in New York.
