More than 350 students are currently studying at the Syrian Maritime Academy for Maritime Training and Qualification in Lattakia affiliated to the Ministry of Transport, whose opening in 2018 constituted a qualitative leap in terms of supplying the labor market in the maritime transport sector with academically qualified specialized cadres.

The Director General of the General Organization for Maritime Training and Qualification, Eng. Muhammad Ahmed, said in a statement to SANA that the study at the academy is divided into a first stage of four semesters for two years and a second stage that includes practical training on board ships for a period of no less than a year, after which the student will follow the last stage, which is a training course. Short academic exams, followed by the Maritime Administration exams, for the successful candidate to obtain an internationally recognized professional certificate.

Ahmed pointed out that the academy includes three specializations: navigation, mechanical engineering and electronic technologies, pointing out that the costs of studying there are symbolic compared to similar academies in neighboring countries, and there are discounts ranging from 80 to 30 percent offered to students of the families of martyrs and wounded Syrian Arab Army workers and their children And the first students.

Ahmed stated that students from general and vocational high schools are accepted into the academy according to specific conditions and regardless of the year of obtaining the certificate. electronic.

Given the importance of vocational and technical education in the field of maritime transport as a promising job market and required, the Academy was preceded by the opening of the Maritime Transport Secondary School in Lattakia in 1988 and another in Tartous in 2014, according to Dr. Salman Sabiha, Director of Vocational and Technical Education in the Ministry of Transport.

Sabiha indicated that vocational education in secondary schools from the first secondary to the third secondary level includes five professions: “Nautical mechanics, marine navigation, marine electricity, handling merchandise and maritime transport technology.” Or some engineering specializations in other colleges, pointing out that more than 5,000 students have graduated from the Maritime Transport High Schools in Lattakia and Tartous since their establishment until now.
