Take a break from the news in the world: We went out to check out the new hotel on the Dead Sea

The Herbert Samuel Hod Dead Sea Hotel was built on the foundations of the old Hod Hotel, located a few steps from the beach in Ein Bokek.

From the renovated hotel you can look out over the peaceful and unique view of the Dead Sea, enjoy a large pool and spa and varied food.

What do you need besides that?

Vacation at the Dead Sea and Ein Gedi (Photo: Ziv Reinstein, Edited by: Yardena Abdi Fox)

In days of such uncertainty, of Corona and a security crisis in Europe, how convenient it is to escape to one of these resorts, which seem to have always been and always will be there - even when you traveled with your parents and waited for buffet breakfast, and later when you planned your vacation with your partner. Save on camping this time too and just do a little "tummy tuck".

All this is also true of the hotel where I stayed this time - Herbert Samuel Hod Dead Sea in Ein Bokek.

Although it opened very recently, it was actually built on the foundations of an earlier hotel, the Hood Hotel, and has been operating under various costs since 1988. Since 2011 it has been owned by the Nakash brothers, who own the three chains of the Stay, Orchid and Herbert Samuel hotels.

In 2020, it was decided to close the Hood Hotel, renovate and style it - and here is the result, right on the shores of the Dead Sea.

A "fireball" rising from the waters of the Dead Sea

If you are not a big adventurer and all you want is to just relax - this is the place.

At this point, the lowest in the world, it is said, it is easier to find peace and quiet more easily than many other points in our noisy country.

The view of the sea and the desert around is soothing - one that many crave like breathable air, after weeks and months of crazy work days, or just too fast a pace of life.

The location of the hotel is among its great advantages.

The rooms, 211 in number, overlook the sea and the mountains of Moab spread out before them.

Most of the rooms, more expensive and less expensive, have a balcony, which you should go out throughout the day and just admire the changing landscape with the location of the sun.

For those who wake up between you, it is recommended to linger in front of the view at sunrise, so it is difficult not to stare at the "fireball" that rises from the waters of the Dead Sea.

Of course you do not just have to observe, and you can also, of course, take a dip in the sea which is a few steps from the back exit of the hotel.

Bathing is allowed in the presence of a lifeguard only and is possible during the winter from 07:30 to 16:30 and in summer from 07:30 to 17:30.

The Dead Sea promenade passes by the hotel, and you can walk along it leisurely, run or pedal on the bikes rented at the place at all hours of the day.

It's hard not to stare at the "fireball" in the morning.

The room where I stayed was a superior room, which was quite compact but beautiful, clean and tidy, with all the necessary accessories for a comfortable stay.

The bed was very comfortable, with the same white sheets, familiar that are always fun to stretch on after a "hard" day of recreation.

The shower room, with its straight and white design, transmits mainly cleanliness - one that is awaited after a day of hiking in the area or after sitting on the beach or immersing in the sea or pool.

The room is suitable for a couple, and as I already mentioned, the balcony and the view are a significant bonus.

In addition to the superior rooms, the hotel has deluxe and executive rooms and a number of villas that differ in their sizes and the additional accessories in them, some of which you will find a jacuzzi bath or a private pool.

Most rooms at the hotel can accommodate a couple and another child, but for a couple and two or more larger rooms must be booked than the standard ones.

13 of the hotel's rooms have a connecting door.

Compact but clean and tidy.

Entrance to the pool - from the age of 16 and up

Another advantage for hotel guests is its spacious and elegant spa, which includes 16 treatment rooms.

The place has a refreshment and waiting area with invested refreshments, which "closes the corner" after a facial or massage.

I really enjoyed the treatment itself, and the caregiver was very attentive and professional.

Reservations must be made in advance for spa treatments, which are at an additional cost.

In addition to the treatments, the spa complex has two indoor pools - one Dead Sea pool and the other a sulfur pool - and free entry for all hotel guests aged 16 and over.

Given the fact that all the medicinal properties are also found in the sea outside, it can be said that the pools are designed for anyone who is lazy to cross the beach that separates the hotel from the sea - but it is actually a fun and quite entertaining experience in itself.

That way at least someone who did not fully understand (like me) will feel that the buoyancy effect also exists in this clear pool, and enters it with full intention, just swim - he will very quickly find that his feet pull him up, and if he is not careful enough, he will get a few drops of salt-salt water Into the face.

The experience of lying on the water kept me and my friends giggling for at least half an hour, as we both floated like two big, clumsy Moshe boxes.

A Jacuzzi and a dry sauna can also be found in the spa complex, and a wet sauna is also expected to open in the future.

In addition, vacationers who are not willing to give up the gym during their vacation, will be able to find one next to the spa, which has a number of treadmills, additional aerobics equipment and some power equipment.

The hotel has a large outdoor swimming pool, located off the lobby floor, with views of the beach and mountain views.

Many sun beds are arranged around the guests' well-being.

Since it was February, and I was cold, I did not enter it, but there was one brave swimmer who took advantage of its size and swam a few pools at impressive speed.

Vegans will be happy too

The hotel's dining room is located on its lobby floor, and serves three meals a day.

The food is very varied, and at times when everyone has different strict requirements about what he puts in his mouth - here you can find everything.

From fresh vegetables and colorful salads that will delight any vegan wherever he is (the sweet potato salad I ate there was one of the most successful I ate, I swear), through fresh and hot breads from the oven, hard cheeses, soups, pastries and pies, to fish and meat.

Of course, the breakfast is dairy, and in the best tradition, you can also find an omelet that is prepared on site with toppings at the guest's request.

It is certainly possible to mention "V" about a nostalgic and delicious breakfast, which if we do not know how to stop in time, it is doubtful if we will be able to take ourselves for a walk outside, if we planned to be productive for a change.

The hotel lobby is wide and cozy, where you can sit and order a drink and light refreshments from the bar.

At the reception at the entrance you can get information about the hotel's services and the area, as well as recommendations for trips in the area.

A hopping distance from the Herbert Samuel Hood Hotel is another Nakash group hotel, the Milos, which opened about two years ago.

NIS 130 million has been invested in the two hotels together in the last three years - an investment that more than anything else reflects the group's belief in the region, which has not been educated, despite two particularly difficult years in the tourism industry following the Corona epidemic.

If you've longed for a short vacation, where you can put your worries aside for a while, without the pressure to "plan" or "get enough", the Dead Sea is still here.

Because in such periods, when the cellphone does not stop sending disturbing news from the world, there is nothing like simply stopping, breathing, and rejoicing that it is also possible to cancel.

How much does it cost?

Starting from NIS 1,000 per night for a couple per night with breakfast in the middle of the week, and NIS 1,380 for half board.

At the end of the week, the price will increase from NIS 1,400 per night with breakfast, and NIS 1,780 for half board.
