An Air crew member of the Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair was photographed allegedly sipping a bottle of rosé wine alongside a double serving of whiskey.

This was during a flight he was working on, which made its way from Rzeszow in Poland to London Stansted Airport in the UK.

After the plane landed at its destination, the flight attendant was given a breath test to detect the levels of alcohol in his blood, in which he failed.

He was arrested by local police on suspicion of performing his job as an aviator while in a state of intoxication.

The SUN website reports that a video documenting the incident was passed on to the media, by a passenger who spoke to the crew member.

He sounded drunk, and looked like he had been drinking even before boarding the flight. "

According to the report, the flight was operated by the Austrian airline Lauda, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of Rainier about three years ago. Were unaware of what was going on in the back kitchen.

It was further reported that in a test performed on him after landing, his alcohol concentration was 50 mg per 100 ml of exhalation.

Expected to be sent to jail

Alcohol laws for air crews may change, but today, in the UK and many other European countries, pilots and air crew members are not allowed to drink alcohol at least eight hours before the flight.

An airline spokesman said the flight attendant had already been fired.

"Lauda Europe has investigated the report for a breach of strict policy. An air crew member is no longer working for Lauda Europe," the airline said in a statement.

On June 8, the steward is expected to stand trial.

If found guilty, he could be sent to prison.
