Hellfest 2022: Seven Bands You Can't Miss

2022-06-17T09:16:40.270Z

After two years of postponement, the metal festival has gone all out. Apart from the big headliners, like Deep Purple, Deftones, Gun's and Roses, Gojira, Ghost and Metallica which will close the festival, here is our selection of concerts.

After two years of postponement, the 15th edition is fast approaching and with great sound.

350 artists, 6 stages, 7 days: the organization has seen things big for this anniversary date.

Seven days of music spread over two weekends from June 17 to June 27.

Friday, June 17: Mastodon

They just performed at the Salle Pleyel a few days ago.

The group Mastodon delivered in 2021 their best album in 20 years of career.

Even if the central theme of

Hushed and Grim

is mourning and melancholy (a reference to the death of the group's manager in 2018), we are embarked on a melody of a double album with a very heavy sound, in the good sense of the word, where all the pieces follow one another with elegance and power.

A live not to be missed on Friday June 17 at 7:45 p.m. in mainstage 2.

Saturday, June 18

:

Rival Sons

Jay Buchanan's band will perform on mainstage 1 at 6:30 p.m.

A little too early for this Californian Rock Blues.

Since the release of their last album

Feral Roots

in 2019, the band have embarked on a gigantic tour and happily scour festivals.

Jay's impressive voice accompanied by Scott Holiday's subtle guitar playing captivates you to never leave you.

Sunday June 19: Jinger

Long uncertain, the Ukrainian group Jinjer confirmed last week their presence at the festival despite the war in their country.

Singer Tatiana Shmayluk will deploy all her vocal power.

Capable of rocking you with one of the sweetest voices like on the track

Pisces

, but also of knocking you out with his power of a guttural voice that undermines his vocal cords.

Not to be reproduced at home under penalty of losing your voice, but without question, to listen to.

Thursday June 23:

Zeal & Ardor

The American-Swiss band, led by Manuel Gagneux, will bring their black metal mixed with Gospel to the Temple stage.

And yes it is possible and it is even impressive.

With Zeal & Ardor you are constantly in the ambivalence between violence and gentleness especially in their last eponymous album.

They serve you catchy metal riffs that will make you become a high-flying

headbanger

(shake your head long and very fast).

Friday, June 24: Pogo Car Crash Control

Here is a young shoot of French rock to follow absolutely.

Since their first Opus in 2016, the group has continued to progress in a Grunge, punk style with powerful riffs and a good dose of rage.

Admittedly, the Covid period did not help the group in its ascent, but they are absolutely part of this new generation of French rock like the essential Last Train.

For their latest album

, Frequency Violence,

released in May, the band is aggressively driven, all in control.

The latest single

Crystals Liquids

will allow you to go from the stage of a rocker's apprentice driver to the status of an exceptional grunge punk driver.

Saturday, June 25: Gary Clark Jr.

Hellfest is not only a metal scene, rock, garage rock and blues can have their place.

Gary Clark Jr is living proof of that.

His latest album, even more politically engaged, denounced racism and the difficult conditions of black Americans during Trump's mandate through titles like

Got to get up

and

When I'm gone

.

The album

This Land

makes it possible to spread out all the talent of Gary Clark Jr. Especially

Don't give up the fight!

Sunday, June 26: Metallica

Impossible not to conclude with Metallica.

They have been raging in the world of metal (trash metal) for almost 40 years.

Why this longevity?

Some will say it's talent, others that it's no longer a group but a company.

What if it was both.

Since the first opus in 1983

Kill'em All

the group has not stopped growing, progressing, evolving.

Their fifth album, the famous

Black Album

, takes the group to another dimension with 16 million albums sold.

Certainly the group has known complicated periods, changes of members, but they are still there.

It is certain that this first visit to Hellfest will remain engraved forever for all festival-goers.

Seven exceptional days of concerts.
