(ANSA) - BARI, JUN 18 - A 47-year-old from Bari died in the sea just after 3pm today in Forcatella, in the province of Brindisi, after saving his two 11-year-old twin daughters, who were unable to return to shore.
The man was on the beach with his family when he noticed his daughters in trouble due to the waves caused by the mistral wind, and he was diving and rescuing them.
But he got trapped in the waves.
Other bathers dived to help him but by the time they reached him he was already dead.
The attempts of the 118 staff to revive him were useless.
Maybe he had a heart attack from excessive exertion.
Investigations are ongoing.
The men of the Port Authority and the Carabinieri intervened.
