The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, stressed the importance of Law No. (29) of 2022 in terms of securing adequate housing for students of universities and technical institutes and improving the quality of services in it according to the foundations and standards set by the University City Board of Directors, which will determine the service allowance for housing and can build new housing units and rehabilitate existing units And maintenance and investment of its facilities such as kiosks, restaurant and others.
In a statement to SANA, Dr. Ibrahim pointed out that the university cities were a directorate, and this law gave them more freedom in administrative and financial work and effectiveness in simplifying procedures and quickly completing services and managing financial resources and other things in a manner that serves students appropriately, which is positively reflected on the educational process because university housing is part One of its components, and when housing is properly and safely secured for the student, his educational attainment will certainly be better.
According to Dr. Ibrahim, there are currently 86 housing units for students in different governorates, and a university city authority is not created unless there are 3 housing units, noting that 65 thousand male and female students currently reside in the housing units.
