Changes are coming to dm customers soon: They have to say goodbye to many products in the usual way.
The reason for this is a specific marking on the packaging material.
Munich – Some dm customers may have already noticed: Since 2021, the packaging of many private label products has been adorned with the “climate neutral” logo.
In the meantime, however, it is rarely shown on the products - and not without reason.
By 2023 at the latest, drugstore chain dm wants to do without the label of the "climate neutral" certifier Climate Partner on many products of its own brands Balea, Alverde, Babylove and Jessa.
According to industry representatives, some manufacturers are already supplied with packaging material without the certifier's logo.
dm checks labels from Climate Partner
Dm managing director Kerstin Erbe revealed to the
Lebensmittel Zeitung
that the drugstore chain is responding to criticism from associations and customers that it is using climate neutrality as advertising.
Therefore, dm is "currently checking the use of the Climate Partner label on our dm branded products".
The druggist is “in talks about further cooperation” with Climate Partner.
dm has not yet confirmed that the label has been completely dispensed with.
Climate neutral certifier under criticism
The certifier Climate Partner was criticized by the organization Foodwatch.
Since products with the label "climate neutral" are particularly attractive at a time when the climate debate is picking up steam and activists sticking themselves on the streets to save the planet or throwing tomato sauce at world-famous paintings, this ensures a huge image boost .
Hence the accusation that Climate Partner was running a modern sale of indulgences.
Whether and to what extent the term "climate neutral" is actually misleading in advertising has not yet been conclusively clarified.
As the
Lebensmittel Zeitung
reports, other retailers and manufacturers are currently reviewing their cooperation with Climate Partner.
However, the focus is not on separation, but on clearer communication.
Recently, a dm customer complained that a beloved product was missing.
He contacted the drugstore chain via Facebook - and promptly received an answer.
