The International Photography Festival will present a variety of exhibitions, but the highlight is the Woman Photo Woman project, about the place of women in the field of photography and culture • "Women will save the world"

Quite a few surprises:

as part of the PHOTO IS:RAEL international photography festival, which will take place from today until December 3, about 50 exhibitions of leading Israeli and international photographers, special tours, performance shows, video art, music shows and more will be presented, which will be spread across each center Einav for culture, in the transparent lobby of the hall, on the roof of the Garden of the City and throughout the Garden of the City.

During 2023, the festival will continue to migrate to the geographic and social periphery, and will be presented in additional locations throughout Israel under the theme Action.

Among the exhibitions: the intriguing project Woman Photo Woman - a group exhibition of six international artists (Austria, Lithuania, Hungary and Colombia) dealing with the female gaze, feminist activism and the place of women in the field of photography and culture.

The exhibition focuses on acts of violence against women, the silencing of those women and their impossibility to act as they wish, and as part of it the video FORCED TO MARRIED will be shown, which tells the story of refugees from South Sudan who are forced to marry against their will.

In the exhibition, the artists Leima Kribit and Ainta Ermanaviciut from Lithuania present the work "Emancipation Flag - Balcony, 2018", which refers to the difficulties experienced by women in politics in Lithuania at the beginning of the 20th century.

The flag will fly high

"We still work as a collective that unites forces in our works with different women, and sometimes with progressive men," they tell Israel Hayom.

"Virginia Woolf wrote that a woman needs her own room, and we think that women need their own flag, a flag that will tell our story, a private place that will become public when necessary. A flag that will create movement and fly high."

Do you believe that art can change reality and improve the situation of women in the world?

"We definitely believe that art changes and will change reality. Movies, books and pictures shape our imagination and vision. Art, culture and their absence can also affect election results. Art can move mountains. Women will save the world."

Colombian artist Juanita Escobar, an international award-winning documentary photographer, presents "I came back to see you".

"In my work I examined the relationship between the people and their geography," she says.

"My project revolved around two themes: gender and territory. It was important for me to dwell on the idea of extending the time spent in the territory, insistence and curiosity, through layers of faces and places."
