As part of the promotional campaign for her new book The Light We Carry, Obama sat down about a week ago for a conversation with Ellen DeGeneres in a casual denim block from the Danish brand Gani.
Obama styled between a jean jacket with a waist-highlighting silhouette and wide-leg trousers and arrived at the interview with naturally curly-looking hair braided in accordance with the message she wanted to convey. According to her, Americans "were not ready" for her natural hair during Barack Obama's term in the White House , although it was easier to style her hair in braids. Fearing that her hair would serve as a distraction and politicization, Michelle decided to straighten her hair so the administration could focus on its agenda instead of having to answer racist questions about her hair. "Let me keep my hair straight," Obama recalled who thought then, "Let's pass the health services".

It turns out that natural hairstyles that are considered less professional are an obstacle facing black women in many workplaces in the United States.
The US House of Representatives in March passed the Crown Act banning discrimination on the basis of hairstyles but failed in the Senate.
Several states and municipalities have drafted local versions of the law, including Miami Beach, which passed a hair discrimination ban last month.
