Fatigue, tension, bruises, cold symptoms such as headaches: every nation has its own home remedies for complaints.

1 / 6Cabbage wraps can help with bruises and swelling.

The traditional home remedy from Switzerland relies on the essences of savoy or white cabbage, which are said to have an anti-inflammatory effect.

A few large, dark green organic cabbage leaves are rolled out/gently tapped with a rolling pin or similar kitchen utensil until the leaves seep the juice.

The leaf is then placed on the affected area of skin, wrapped with cling film and then with a cloth.

It is best to leave the cabbage wrap on for a few hours and repeat the process daily until the swelling goes down.

2 / 6Tomatoes, garlic, lemon, ginger: the combo used in Italy for colds.

The mixture contains many nutrients, minerals, vitamins and trace elements as well as essential oils that support the immune system in the fight against viruses and bacteria.

For the Italian tomato passata, simply carve around 250 grams of tomatoes crosswise and pour boiling water over them.

They can then be easily skinned and pressed through a sieve.

Now two cloves of garlic are crushed and mixed with the juice of one lemon.

Now add a few slices of ginger and blend everything in the blender.

The passata is then heated.

3 / 6Pepper adds spiciness to dishes and stimulates digestion.

In Turkey it is also used as a cough medicine.

Its warming effect is used in the form of pepper wraps with honey: spread two tablespoons of honey on the back and sprinkle with freshly ground pepper.

Covered with a towel, you should rest for about 15 minutes, says the book "Pepper wrap, turmeric milk & Co. - Traditional home remedies from all over the world".

The honey is said to increase the cold-relieving effect of the pepper, as it has an antibiotic and expectorant effect.

4 / 6In France, some people use lavender tincture when they have trouble sleeping.

The calming effect of the medicinal herb is the reason why lavender essences are contained in many products to prevent problems falling and staying asleep.

To make your own nightcap, crumble a handful of dried lavender flowers into a screw-top jar and add 175 milliliters of brandy from the pharmacy and 75 milliliters of filtered water.

When the flowers are covered, the jar is closed and shaken for a few minutes.

After two weeks in a cool and dark place (every two days you need to shake the vial), the tincture will be ready.

Filter them through a cotton cloth and drink half a teaspoon before bedtime.

5 / 6Rosemary doesn't just look good in your own garden or on the balcony: the medicinal herb is used in many nations because of its antibacterial, circulation-enhancing and stimulating effects.

In Norway, a ginger and rosemary tincture with honey is used for headaches.

In combination, the ingredients have a pain-relieving effect: ginger can help with nausea, honey has been valued for centuries for its antibacterial and antispasmodic effects, rosemary stimulates blood circulation, which can relieve headaches.

This is how you can make the tincture yourself: Boil water with freshly grated ginger and add chopped rosemary after a short cooling phase.

After boiling again, let it steep for about ten minutes, pour everything through a sieve and add honey to taste.

6 / 6Babuschka's energy milk: A Russian home remedy for exhaustion and lethargy, which is said to bring new energy through a large number of important minerals and trace elements.

The main ingredient: milk as a supplier of proteins, calcium and potassium.

Honey, which has an antibacterial effect, and butter, which contains fat, protein and minerals, are added.

The glass of energy milk also contains an egg as a protein donor.

The book "Pepper wraps, turmeric milk & Co. - Traditional household remedies from all over the world" recommends first heating the milk (around 250 milliliters) and then stirring all the ingredients (one tablespoon each of butter and honey) well into it.
