The parents of the suspected Paris attacker have been stunned by the crime.
On Friday, the 69-year-old man fired several shots at a Kurdish community center, killing three people.
Three other people were injured in the attack in the tenth arrondissement of Paris.
"Hard to believe we played Scrabble the night before like nothing happened," the man's 90-year-old mother told Le Parisien newspaper.
It was an unforgivable act, his father said.
Apparently, the son changed while he was serving a sentence in prison.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the alleged perpetrator confessed to a "pathological hatred of foreigners" on Sunday.
Since a burglary six years ago, the 69-year-old has always wanted to kill foreigners.
He was always a loner, didn't smoke, didn't drink and never introduced a boyfriend or girlfriend, the parents said in an interview.
Her son had always been very silent from an early age.
The suspect had only been released from custody a few days before the crime.
Last year he attacked migrants and injured several people.
According to media reports, in 2016 he attacked a man with a knife.
