(ANSA) - TEL AVIV, 02 JAN - The PLO and Hamas from Gaza have warned Israel on the announced visit of the minister of national security, exponent of the radical right, Itamar BenGvir on the Esplanade of the Mosques (the Temple Mount for the Jews) in Jerusalem.
"Ben Gvir's threat to assault Al-Aqsa as security minister - Hussein al Sheikh, the organization's secretary general and senior official of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) said on twitter - is the culmination of a blatant and shameless challenge that requires a Palestinian response , Arab and international, commensurate with this step which should be considered the first of this government and its employment policies".
Hamas spokesman Abd al-Latif al-Qanua - quoted by the media - said that Ben Gvir's visit "is another example of the arrogance of a settler government, of their future plans to damage the Al-Aqsa Mosque and divide it ".
Ben Gvir confirmed his intention to travel to the esplanade - as he has already done several times in the past - yesterday in a meeting with the police chief.
The visit - considered by many to be dangerous for its implications with the Palestinians - should take place in these days and, according to the media, a high-level meeting of the Israeli security forces is scheduled on this eventuality.
