Air India (AIR INDIA)

A drunk passenger who threw his water on another passenger in the business class of an Air India flight will not be able to fly with the airline for 30 days.

Although the incident happened already in November, the Indian airline imposed the "punishment" on the passenger following the outrage that arose after the incident.

The Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of India asked Air India for clarification regarding the incident, which was revealed after the passenger wrote a letter to the company's chairman. "We will take action against those who acted negligently," the regulator noted.

"The most traumatic flight I have ever experienced."

exposed himself until another passenger intervened

The NDTV website reports that on November 26, the drunken passenger allegedly unzipped his pants and poured his water on another female passenger, in her 70s.

The incident happened on a flight from New York to Delhi, after the lights in the passenger cabin were dimmed after the meal.

According to the suspicion, after his act he continued to expose himself and did not stop his actions until another passenger asked him to return to his seat.

The woman complained to the staff and told them that her clothes, shoes and bag were soaked in urine.

According to the report, the staff members gave her a set of pajamas and slippers and told her to return to her seat, claiming that there was no other seat available.

After the flight landed in Delhi, the passenger left the plane and the airport without any action being taken against him for his disgraceful behavior.

The passenger, who was disappointed with the way the incident was handled, wrote a letter the next day to Natarajan Chandraskaran, CEO of the airline group to which Air India belongs, stating that it was "the most traumatic flight I have ever experienced."

"I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the horrific incident that occurred during my flight in business class on flight AI102. It was the most traumatic flight I have ever experienced. During the flight, shortly after lunch was served and lights out, I was getting ready for bed. Another passenger, completely drunk, approached to my seat. He unzipped his pants, freed himself and continued to expose me to his private parts. The passenger sitting next to me asked him to return to the seat. He did not respond immediately, and only after a few moments left the area."

She stated in her letter.

Leaving the airport in pajamas and socks

Just now, Air India filed a complaint with the police against the passenger, and banned him from flying on its flights for 30 days "as a first step".

The company's spokesperson said that a 30-day flight ban is the maximum possible that can be implemented unilaterally.

In addition, the company reported the matter to the civil aviation authority in the country.

However, the airline did not provide details regarding the date of the flight ban.

"We have also established an internal committee designed to investigate deficiencies (behavior) of some of the Air India staff members and address the deficiencies that delayed the quick correction of the situation," the statement said.

In addition, the company stated that it is in regular contact with the passenger and her family during the investigation and reporting process.

According to the reports, the woman stated that she did not want to sit on the contaminated seat, so she was given a crew seat.

After an hour, she was told to return to her seat, which was covered in sheets but still smelled of urine.

When she flatly refused to sit in that seat, she was given another crew seat, where she spent the remaining five hours of the flight.

"Later, I learned from another passenger that there were a few free seats in first class and he suggested that the crew move me to one of them, instead of forcing me to sit in a dirty seat. Obviously, taking care of a passenger in distress was not the priority of the air crew. At the end of the flight, the crew told me that they would get me a wheelchair to ensure that I would go through the process of leaving the airport as quickly as possible. However, I had to stay in the wheelchair for 30 minutes in the waiting area, and no one came to pick me up. I finally had to go through the process myself and collected my bags myself - all in Air pajamas and socks India," the woman wrote, calling the plane's crew "very unprofessional."
