After the voracious fire that broke out in its facilities on Sunday, the owners of the Parador
La Susana
confirmed that the place suffered
"total destruction"
.
The traditional restaurant in the exclusive area of
José Ignacio
, in
Punta del Este
, was consumed by the flames that advanced rapidly since the structure of the place was mostly made of wood.
The serious damage was recorded in a video that was released this Monday.
"With deep regret we inform that this Sunday -February 19- in the afternoon, La Susana has suffered an incident that caused its total destruction", says the statement issued by the company Vik Retreats Uruguay, with the signature of the general manager Mario milk.
On the other hand, the company reported that the episode also affected the adjoining event space -Pavilion Vik-, but no injuries were reported.
"The losses are
exclusively material
," they detailed.
Meanwhile, the Bahía Vik hotel -located near the site of the fire and belonging to the same company- did not suffer damage, but will remain closed as a precaution.
It is expected to reopen in 48 hours.
The event occurred on Sunday afternoon, when a DJ played music in the afternoon while several diners had drinks, others danced and some families enjoyed the restaurant's dishes in the company of children.
At night, a party with Uruguayan candombe was planned.
Just after 6:00 p.m., the high flames and the column of smoke generated by a fire that broke out in the premises surprised the tourists who, on the beach, were stunned by the scene.
The evacuation was immediate, as well as the total destruction of the inn built with wood as the predominant material.
A factor that caused the flames to spread rapidly.
In a matter of minutes, the tranquility that La Susana offered was completely altered.
And the hostel, which had almost full reserves for the next few days, was filled with firefighters who had to carry out dangerous maneuvers to put out the uncontrollable flames.
