Unlike many types of cancer, thyroid cancer affects relatively young people and mainly women. Fortunately, the recovery rates from it are very high. Here are the details about Adele Besplov's cancer

The reality star and influencer Adele Besplov revealed this morning (Tuesday) that she recovered from cancer and underwent surgery to remove a thyroid tumor.

Besplov shared photos from the hospital, and told her followers about the moments of horror she felt when she received the difficult news.

"Three weeks ago, I got a call from Iris, my amazing endocrinologist, who said come to the department and the results came. Now, as I see movies when someone is called to come to the department, it's not good. I told her on the phone in a crying voice, Iris, what do I have cancer? She says yes, thyroid cancer." Adele wrote.

"Another phone call, Iris explains to me that it's cancer whose recovery is up to 100%. I discovered it at a relatively early stage, thank God, it requires thyroidectomy surgery and with God's help I'm behind. I started the process and they scheduled an operation for me. Yesterday I underwent thyroidectomy surgery." .

What is thyroid cancer?

The thyroid gland, also called the thyroid gland or the thyroid gland, is located in the front of the neck under the glottis, and belongs to the endocrine system in the body.

The gland secretes hormones that are responsible for the body's metabolism, the rate of operation of various systems and even memory.

The causes of thyroid cancer are not completely known, but a connection has been found between the onset of the disease and previous exposure to radioactive radiation in the chest and neck area, which are given in many cases as treatment for recovery from other types of cancer.

The disease has genetic factors, so there is an increased risk of contracting the disease if another family member has it.

In general, thyroid cancer mainly affects women and, surprisingly, relatively young people as well.

Three times more cases are diagnosed in women compared to men, with the disease being more common among people aged 26-59 (70% women and 65% men).

A quarter of the cases among women were diagnosed among women aged 60 and over, and a fifth of the cases among men, this is different from the age distribution in other types of cancer, where there is actually an increase in incidence with increasing age.

This type of cancer is not common in children.

Chances of recovery are high

Thyroid cancer is considered relatively simple to treat, mainly because most thyroid nodules turn out to be benign, and not malignant.

The most common type among the four types of thyroid cancer is papillary, and it includes 80% of cases and is considered the easiest of them.

In cases of a malignant tumor, 97% of patients with the disease recover up to five years after the discovery, after undergoing a surgical procedure.

According to the Cancer Society, surgery is the initial treatment for these types of cancer, and later radioactive iodine treatment, hormone replacements, and in cases of advanced disease also external radiation and target-oriented treatments (targeted or biological) are also used.

How can you distinguish a tumor in the thyroid gland?

Thyroid cancer tends to develop slowly, and it can often take years before it causes any symptoms.

However, early detection saves lives.

You can conduct a simple test for early detection at home, which requires a mirror and a glass of water.

1. Aim the mirror at the neck area.

The thyroid gland (also known as the thyroid gland) is located between the collarbones.

(the two diagonal bones that stand out on both sides of the neck) to the middle of the throat, below the throat area.

2. Slightly tilt your head back.

3. Sip from the glass of water and look at the neck.

Check if you notice any bumps or lumps.

4. Besides an external examination, symptoms that should arouse your suspicion are an unfamiliar swelling sensation in your neck, pain, voice changes, hoarseness, difficulty breathing or swallowing.

In addition, symptoms characteristic of hypothyroidism such as fatigue, depression, irregular periods, sensitivity to cold, dry skin and weight gain, or characteristics of hyperthyroidism such as rapid heartbeat and sensitivity to heat.

5. If you noticed a gland or a lump, or if you suffer from one or more of the symptoms, go to an endocrinologist for a consultation.

As mentioned, unlike other types of cancer, thyroid cancer is usually not life-threatening and can be treated effectively, especially if it is detected at an early stage.
